Some massage therapists wonder whether or not it is possible to incorporate aromatherapy massage oil with certain bodywork techniques. Shiatsu and Acupressure, for example, don't seem to lend themselves very well to lubricants since it becomes much harder to keep your fingers stationary if the patient's body is unusually slick. But some practitioners manage to use aromatherapy massage oil quite effectively with the above techniques.

What Is Aromatherapy Massage Oil?
Aromatherapy massage oil is basically regular massage oil that has been infused with various herbal extracts and fragrances. The purpose of this type of oil is twofold: to provide greater lubrication, and to relax the patient by stimulating his or her sense of smell.

What is Acupressure?
Acupressure is a style of massage therapy in which key points along the body receive intense pressure so as to simulate greater circulation of a person's "Chi."

How Do Some People Use Them Together?
While Acupressure and aromatherapy massage oil may be difficult to you simultaneously, many massage therapists use them quite effectively back to back. The Acupressure comes first, while the practitioner's hands are still relatively dry. Thereafter, the massage therapist will incorporate the oil while using Swedish massage, Thai massage, or deep tissue massage to further relax the patient.

If you are able to execute Acupressure therapy while using massage oil at the same time, then by all means, continue doing so. But many massage therapists prefer to do one, then the other in a standard massage therapy session.
