Aromatherapy Candles and Myofascial Release
Although anyone can deliver a "good" massage, having a deep understanding of the human anatomy, physiology, and chemistry is essential for administering a "great" massage. Understanding how myofascial release works, for example, will dramatically improve the overall effectiveness of any massage you give as a licensed practitioner. In addition, your ability to incorporate accessories like an aromatherapy candle will also yield many positive results.

What Is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial release deals with applying pressure to key areas on the muscle groups and connective tissue (fascia means connective tissue...myo means muscle). By reworking these various areas, a practitioner can help release tension, stress buildup, and negative energy. From a practical standpoint, massaging the muscles helps oxygenate the blood, and thus, reduces the buildup of lactic acid (one of the causes of muscle fatigue and pain).

What Is an Aromatherapy Candle?
An aromatherapy candle is one of many accessory items that massage therapists routinely work into their sessions. A standard aromatherapy candle is basically a normal candle that has been infused with herbal extracts, incense, and various fragrances that get released as the candle slowly burns down. It is believed that the "aroma" produced by an aromatherapy candle helps relaxes the many senses; especially the olfactory (smell) senses.

Incorporating the Two
Used independently, myofascial release or an aromatherapy candle can be extremely effective at helping a patient or client overcome pain, injury, stress, or illness. Used in tandem, however, the results can sometimes be extraordinary. If you plan to work professionally as a massage therapist, you'd be wise to master both of these areas since doing so can have a profound effect on your overall business.
