Learning How to Treat Lower Back Pain
As you begin researching different massage therapy schools, make sure you look at programs that include lower back pain treatment in their curriculum. After all, lower back pain is one of the most common ailments afflicting adults these days. We spend a tremendous amount of time at our computers, and very few of us manage to exercise regularly. If your massage school can provide you with the skills and training to treat lower back pain, you'll have plenty of work in the years to come.
Other Things to Look for in a Massage School
Although treating lower back pain is extremely important, it is by no means the only thing you should look for in a massage school. The programs you research should stress things like diet, exercise, meditation, aromatherapy, and yoga. Any massage school that doesn't include coursework in these areas will not be able to prepare you for a successful career as massage therapist.
Your Massage School Should Also Prepare You for Certification
Because massage therapy is a regulated occupation, it's also important that your massage school prepares you for certification and licensing. The national exam for massage therapy and bodywork will include sections on anatomy, physiology, and a host of other disciplines for which training and formal education is necessary. Without passing the exam, you will not be able to treat lower back pain (or any type of pain for that matter) as a certified massage therapist. In addition, you won't be able to instruct your patients on how to alter their lifestyles and routines so as to reduce the risk of future lower back pain.
