Massages As a Back Pain Remedy
It's no secret that massages feel wonderful, but did you also know that they were extremely effective as a back pain remedy? After a stressful day at work or a hard day at the gym, one or two massages can work wonders on the back and neck. Used in conjunction with a heat pack (another popular back pain remedy), a good Swedish massage or Shiatsu massage can dramatically reduce pain, alleviate stress, and induce a wonderful feeling of wellness and euphoria.
Massages Are Only a Short-Term Back Pain Remedy
it is important to point out that no massage (regardless of how good it is) can fully address long-term back pain. If any of your patients suffer from chronic neck or back pain, it's important that they take dramatic steps to alter various aspects of their exercise routine, sleep, diet, and work habits. A good massage therapy program can teach you how to help patients address problems such as poor posture, bad work habits, or poor nutrition. Make sure that you take classes on anatomy, yoga, meditation, visualization, diet and nutrition, exercise, and of course, massage therapy.
If Back Pain Still Occurs
If your patients complain of chronic back pain even after numerous massages and various lifestyle changes, it's important that you refer them to an orthopedic physician or chiropractor since their back pain is probably indicative of a much deeper problem such as bone misalignment or severe nerve damage. Massage therapy is an extremely effective form of complementary medicine, but it cannot always replace primary care when the problem is particularly severe.
