Choosing a Massage School Shouldn't Be a Pain In the Neck
Neck pain is more common than most people think. After a four-year study, the United States Center for Health Statistics found that some 7% of American men and 9.4% of American women suffered from neck pain. One of the most common forms of treatment for neck pain is massage therapy, preferred by many because it doesn't rely on medication or expensive surgery. This is arguably one factor behind the increasing popularity of massage therapy as a career. Ironically, given the abundance of options for United States massage schools and programs, potential students may find it hard to pick schools and courses most suitable for them.
Making Sure Your Massage School Is Right For You
There are so many United States massage schools that choosing the right one to attend can be rather daunting. The American Massage Therapy Association recommends that before committing to a particular school, you visit open house sessions or register for an introductory class to make sure the school's atmosphere, philosophies, and teaching styles match your expectations. Choose whether you want traditional classroom instruction, or newer distance-based or online education. Make sure your United States massage school is accredited by all relevant state agencies, and that their accreditation is current. Check to see whether core courses include fundamentals like physiology and theory and practice of massage therapy. Keeping these guidelines in mind should make choosing your massage therapy school as relaxed as, well, a good massage.
