Massage Specialties: Rolfing
Considering starting a career in a unique area of the massage therapy industry? Rolfing has been around for over thirty years, but its popularity has only recently increased.

Rolfing is about balance, flexibility, and bodily realignment. Rolfing is a massage treatment that focuses on fascia, the web-like connective tissue in the body. "Structural integrity" is a term you might learn in a rolfing certificate program, and it refers to the organization of organs, tissues, and bones inside the body. Rolfers improve the structural integrity of the body through deep tissue massage.

Working as a Rolfing Specialist
As a rolfing specialist, you might have one of these titles:
· Certified Rolfer
· Certified Advanced Rolfer
· Rolf Movement Practitioner

To work as a rolfer, you will need your certificate in rolfing from a massage therapy school or one that specializes in rolfing.

Your hourly rate as a rolfer may be higher than other massage therapists. After some experience, you may be able to charge over $50 per hour, and with a lot of experience (15-20 years), you can look forward to hourly rates of over $100 per hour. There is a lot of opportunity for rolfers in sports therapy and sports medicine. Sports teams big and small look for rolfers to provide muscle pain relief to their team.

Sound exciting? Becoming certified in rolfing is the first step. Once you are certified, you can get a job as a rolfer and be on your way to a great career.
