Can a Shiatsu Massage Chair Help with Back Pain Relief?
If you've ever walked through the mall, you've probably seen a Shiatsu massage chair on display in some high-tech gadget store. You've probably even sat in one of these chairs to enjoy those free demonstrations. But can a Shiatsu massage chair really help with back pain relief? It seems that practitioners and patients alike are divided on this one. Because different people have different types of back pain, it's highly unlikely that any individual Shiatsu massage chair can provide adequate back pain relief for every single user.

Alternatives to a Shiatsu Massage Chair
Because a standard Shiatsu massage chair is one-size-fits-all, it won't necessarily be able to target all of the problem areas in a person's back. So if a person truly wants custom tailored back pain relief, he or she ought to go to a true Shiatsu massage therapist. By explaining to the therapist the exact symptoms, a patient can receive targeted relief to localized areas. The downside, of course, is that you can't take a Shiatsu massage therapist home with you and employ them whenever you want. The upside, however, is that a series of sessions with a licensed Shiatsu massage therapist is still infinitely cheaper (and more effective) than having a convenient Shiatsu massage chair in the home.

Other Types of Back Pain Relief
Back pain is usually a symptom of some deeper problem (poor nutrition, high stress, bad posture, poor sleeping or working habits, etc.). So for true back pain relief, you might need to change certain aspects of your daily routine. Never overestimate the effectiveness of regular exercise, meditation, and yoga. In addition, it might be worth investing in an ergonomic chair for your work or study space if you spend long hours every day at your desk.
